Why this course matters
You can analyse your own data without paid software.
Statistics stops being frightening when you do it yourself. This course answers the questions that hold most researchers back:
- What kind of data do I have, and how do I describe it?
- What do a P value and a confidence interval really mean?
- Which test does my study need?
- How do I write the analysis the way a published paper does?
The first modules build the ideas without software. The later modules run each analysis in jamovi on real research data.

What you'll learn
A Start Here module, then eleven teaching modules. Each one answers one question.
MODULE 1
What kind of data do you have?
Participants, variables, quantitative and qualitative data, and why the type decides your analysis.
MODULE 2
How do you describe your data?
Counts and percentages, centre and spread, SD vs SE, median, IQR, box plots, normal vs skewed data.
MODULE 3
Could the result be due to chance?
The null hypothesis, the P value and the 95% confidence interval, and what both do and do not tell you.
MODULE 4
How do you get your data ready in jamovi?
A first tour of jamovi, variable types, modules and recoding, then importing and cleaning a real dataset.
MODULE 5
How do you describe your study groups?
What Table 1 shows, descriptive statistics, the ShapiroâWilk test, and building Table 1 in Word.
MODULE 6
Which test do you need?
Choosing a test from the outcome and the number of groups, then chi-square and Fisher's exact test.
MODULE 7
How do you compare a measurement between groups?
The t-test, MannâWhitney U, one-way ANOVA with post hoc tests, and KruskalâWallis.
MODULE 8
How are two measurements related?
Correlation, the scatter plot, the main types of regression, and simple linear regression in jamovi.
MODULE 9
How good is a diagnostic test?
Sensitivity, specificity, predictive values, likelihood ratios and the ROC curve.
MODULE 10
How long until the event?
Censoring, the KaplanâMeier curve, median survival and the log-rank test.
MODULE 11
How do you report your analysis?
A reporting checklist, a final assignment and a course-wide quiz.
The result
You will be able to run and report your own analysis
Every analysis is done on real research data, so you practise each step yourself.
